1967, William Austin founded Professional Hearing Aid Service, a
Minnesota company focused on hearing aid repair. A few years later,
Austin purchased Starkey
Laboratories, a small earmold manufacturer and decided to retain the
Starkey name for the combined enterprise. In subsequent years, Starkey
became a leading hearing aid manufacturer in the United States and
throughout the world, scoring such high-profile clients as President
Ronald Reagan, golf legend Arnold Palmer, and champion bodybuilder Lou
Ferrigno along the way.
Starkey has several lines of hearing aid products. The S Series represents the company's most advanced hearing aids, providing such features as optimized voice, music, television, and telephone signal processing, water protection, remote control, feedback minimization, and data tracking. The S Series is available across all types, including open and receiver-in-canal BTEs, along with ITEs, ITCs, and CICs. Starkey also offers the OtoLens Series which centers on a very small CIC that is completely invisible from the outside and is designed for maximal cosmetic benefit. The Zon Series is designed specifically for challenging listening environments and comes in a range of prices and feature sets. The Destiny Series is the company's standard BTE line for a range of needs. Finally, Starkey has a separate pediatric line that is devoted to the special needs of hearing impaired children.
